We are looking for a Forest School leader for our Parent and Child Forest School group at The Community Farm in Chew Magna on Tuesday mornings.

Little Shoots is our Farm & Forest School for children aged 2-5 with their parent / carer. Set within the glorious Learning Area at The Community Farm, we have access to a large outdoor shelter, wildife pond, fire pit, mud kitchen area and raised beds for our group to use, with views over Chew Valley Lake. Timings

We are looking for someone to lead the group from 10am-11.30pm weekly on tuesdays on a self-employed basis. Sessions can be run either term-time only or include school holidays. To allow time to set-up and pack down, we recommend being on site from 9am-12pm.

Start-date

The successful candidate should be available to assist the group for a minimum of 2 sessions during this coming summer term (between 6th June-18th June) to gain experience. If you are available to run sessions during school holidays the position could start on 15th August. For term-time only sessions, the start date would be 5th September.

Areas of responsibilty

  • Plan, prepare and deliver Forest School sessions for children aged 2-5 years of age with support from an assistant. These sessions are to be planned in-line with the changing seasons and activities are to include growing and harvesting crops within our garden area.

  • To create and maintain an engaging, fun and supportive environment, demonstrating flexibility in planning and running sessions in response to varying/changing needs of children.

  • To ensure that all sessions are well prepared.

  • To be aware of and comply with all Earthwise Policies and Procedures.

  • To participate in training and other learning activities/meetings as required.

  • To be fully aware of medical needs within the group and to administer basic first aid as the need arises.

  • To observe confidentiality at all times.

Person Specification

Skills and experience:

  • Level 3 Forest School qualification

  • Experience of working with toddlers and/or pre-school aged children

  • Paediatric first aid trained

  • Experience in growing veg

  • Full UK driving licence and own transport

  • Adept at dynamic risk-assessing

  • A strong team working ethos and ability to work collaboratively with assistants and volunteers.

  • Enjoy singing (We like to share lovely nature-based songs to close the group and can share songs with you).

DBS Clearance

As this position involves working with children, the position is subject to an Enhanced DBS check if you are not already on the DBS Update Service.

Payment

This position is on a self-employed basis with payment dependant on experience, up to £60 per session. Session times are 10am-11.30am however the payment reflects timings from 9am-12pm to allow for time to set-up and pack-down (with help from an assistant).
